The need for blood doesn't stop for the holidays

At the American Red Cross, a decline in blood and platelet donations typically occurs from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day when donors are busy with holiday activities and travel. Add in the beginning of cold and flu season and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and the Red Cross needs healthy blood and platelet donors to step up and give even more right now to ensure products are available for patients when they need them.

Medical treatments and emergencies that require blood don’t stop for the holidays, so donors of all blood types are urged to give now. Appointments can be made by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.

In thanks for making time to donate, the Red Cross will send those who come to give through Nov. 11 a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card via email, courtesy of Suburban Propane. Restrictions apply. Additional information and details are available at RedCrossBlood.org/Unite. Additionally, to encourage donations around the Thanksgiving holiday, those who come to donate blood or platelets with the Red Cross Nov. 25-28 will receive a long-sleeved Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last, courtesy of Suburban Propane.

Be the reason someone is thankful this fall by making your appointment to give blood or platelets today.
