Operation Care Package providing comfort to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families

The Services to the Armed Forces mission is to provide care and comfort to the members of the United States Armed Forces and their families. Operation Care Package honors America’s Veterans by providing identified material support that helps improve their health and well-being. The care packages in this photo were delivered to the Corinna Maine post office by Kimm Birkbeck; the 21 Operation Care Package boxes were stuffed with socks, treats, coffee and games donated by the Board of the Northern and Eastern Maine Red Cross Chapter and members of the Bangor Breakfast Rotary Club.

“These packages let our service members and veterans know how much we appreciate them,” said Tim Bothe, Service to the Armed Forces Officer for the American Red Cross of Northern New England. “Our service members are not only dealing with deployments to foreign lands and being away from home and family but now have the added worry of COVID on top of it. Our veterans in hospitals and nursing homes are also separated from loved ones, in many cases not being allowed any in-person visits. Just think of that service member or that veteran receiving this care package and messages of gratitude and support. I know it will mean the world to them, it’s the least we can do to say thank you for your service and sacrifice, we appreciate you and remember you.”

Every day, the Red Cross provides 24/7 global emergency communication services and other support in military and veteran health care facilities across the country and around the world. To learn more about this program go to RedCross.org/SAF.
